Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous, NEAR

The NEAR SystemAerojet provided the propulsion system for the Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) spacecraft. This was the first mission in NASA’s Discovery Program and was managed by The John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. The spacecraft launched in 1996 and traveled for five years and more than two billion miles to the asteroid Eros. This was the first spacecraft to orbit an asteroid and then land on it in 2001.
